Why do a First Look?

Why a First Look is Worth It!

There’s nothing wrong with the traditional “wait to see the bride as she’s walking down the aisle”, and it’s OK if you want it that way! But let’s at least have a conversation about the added benefits a First Look could give you and why so many brides are now choosing to do a First Look!

First of all, what does a bride truly want from her husband-to-be as she’s walking down that aisle? A REACTION! She wants to see his face light up and even a tear come trickling down that groom’s cheek as she’s coming to meet him! And trust me, there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But what if you could get that reaction AND get to talk to him and hear him compliment on how great you look?! You can’t do that in the middle of the ceremony. In fact, you won’t have a minute to yourself for at least 45 minutes! And by that time the reaction could be gone and now it’s a rush into family formals, more portraits and off to the reception in an effort to not keep the guests waiting too long. What a first look will give you is time to be alone, just the two of you and your photographer, to see each other, talk to each other, compliment one another, and hold each other before the festivities begin!

Another reason a first look could be right for you is it takes a lot of NERVOUSNESS off of your groom! Let’s face it, a lot of men don’t like to show their true emotions in front of an audience. So they may not show the reaction you were hoping for as you walk down the aisle. But by doing a first look before the ceremony, the pressure is off, nobody is watching, and your man is free to let his emotions be expressed. Grooms normally become incredibly nervous on wedding days, so having this time to be alone with the woman he loves so much will help put him at ease for the rest of the day!

One more perk for you on why doing a first look is worth it…you’ll receive up to 40% MORE portraits of just the two of you! You’re investing a lot into your wedding photography and by doing a first look, you’re getting the most for your money! What images will you decorate your first home with? Images of just the TWO OF YOU! So having extra time for just the two of you is so valuable!

So let’s recap, why is it worth doing a first look?

  • Up to 40% More Portraits in your final gallery

  • Enjoy the surprise and reactions freely

  • Your only time to be alone

  • Diminishes Nerves

Lastly I will add as a disclaimer that I do not require my clients to do a First Look! But I do want to educate you on the benefits it could give you on your wedding day and then let you make that final decision. There are more details in your bridal guide (all brides/grooms receive one after they’ve booked their wedding day with me), pages 37-43. And as always, if you have questions about whether you should do a First Look or not we can setup a time to chat more about it!

Happy Wedding Planning!!!!

Love, Jen
