Wedding Tips: Planning Your Honeymoon!

Wedding Tips:

Planning Your Honeymoon

We know that planning a wedding is stressful as it is and on top of that…You gotta plan your honeymoon too!!! Talk about stress! We would love to share five helpful tips to make honeymoon planning a little bit easier.

Tip #1: Know what your budget is…

One of the worst stresses on a marriage is DEBT. Especially a brand new marriage! So the biggest tip we can give is to know what your budget is and do everything you can to stick to that budget. If your budget allows for an exotic location, then by all means, go for it! But don’t feel pressured to keep up with the celebrities, you can still have an amazing honeymoon on a tight budget. Also, keep in mind that you will have many anniversary trips to go on in the future!

Tip #2: Plan the honeymoon for you AND your spouse

Now, you may be a little confused by this so hear me out. The way people vacation can be different than others. For example, you may have spent your childhood vacations on the beach, sunbathing, and going out to dinner each night. While your spouse’s childhood vacations may have looked like RV camping, hiking a mountain, and Campfire Meals. Since we all have different family dynamics, it’s a great challenge to try and plan the honeymoon to include vacation preferences from BOTH of you. We recommend checking in with each other during the planning process. This will help reduce unfulfilled expectations that could arise. You’ll thank us later. Haha!

Tip #3: All-Inclusive

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about your budget once your honeymoon starts? This could be a good reason to book a cruise for your honeymoon! You don’t have to worry about food, lodging, car rentals, because it’s all included in your package (typically). Another idea would be all-inclusive resorts. We recommend checking out the resort’s social media and reviews to see how the food is and what activities are available there.

Tip #4: Credit Card Points or Rewards

Credit Cards can be a touchy topic…We definitely are advocates for good financial planning, a lot like Dave Ramsey. However, we do have credit cards that we use regularly and pay off at the end of each month in order to gain reward points. You're sure to have some large expenses in the days leading up to your wedding…If you have a credit card that gives you great reward points (like travel points), it might be a good idea to use those cards wisely so you can use the points towards your honeymoon! Just be careful though and don’t misunderstand what we’re saying…Don’t go INTO DEBT just to get points! Only spend what you were budgeting and be wise.

Another added tip - if you are a Costco member, make sure to check out their vacation packages! There are also some great apps out there to help price out resorts, flights, car rentals, lodging. One app that we love to use is “Hopper”.

Tip #5: Delayed Honeymoons

If you’re wanting to save up for a longer trip, planning a short 2-3 day trip right after the wedding may be a great option for you! There’s nothing wrong with planning a delayed honeymoon. Here are a few locations that we love plan 2-3 day trips to:

Crescent City, CA

Depoe Bay, OR

Fort Bragg, CA

Mt. Shasta, CA

Reno, NV

Angels Camp, CA

HAPPY PLANNING!!!
