The Peterson Adventures: Lake Siskiyou

Lake Siskiyou Camping Trip

We had such a fabulous time at Lake Siskiyou Resort in Mt. Shasta, California! We usually take the kids to our church camp in Ventura each summer, but this year it was canceled sadly. So instead we did a fun 3-day campout in the Siskiyou’s! I remember camping at Lake Siskiyou growing up but that was many years ago. Haha! I just remember the fun beach and being in a tent. This time though we rented a cabin that was close to the lake and it was so cozy and cute!

The first day we arrived, it was late in the evening and the sun had already set. My parents had arrived a little earlier and gotten settled into the cabin next to ours. One funny part of the check-in process was the waiver I had to sign stating that I would NOT feed the bears! HAHA! I would never even try to get close to one let alone try to feed it. :) We got settled in and the kids were so amped up and excited! Megan and Jared got to stay in the loft at my parent’s cabin, then Emily, Mandy, and their best friend Jaz stayed in the loft in ours. We finally got them to go to sleep before it hit midnight.

The next morning, we sipped our coffee and enjoyed the chilly air! From the porch of our cabin, we had an amazing view of the lake. I grabbed my camera not too long after breakfast and headed down the hill to the lake. Shortly after taking some shots of the lake, a hawk flew in close by! I tried my hardest to get a shot of that hawk while perched on a branch and then in flight. Those birds move fast! Haha! Matt and the kiddos brought out the fishing gear and started fishing. Unfortunately, they didn’t catch anything. But we did get some fun pictures before smoke started rolling in from all the crazy California Wildfires.

We spent that after just chilling, playing board games, and an afternoon walk. Just before dinner, Matt’s brother joined us with his two cute little kiddos! We feasted on hamburgers then made a small campfire and made s’mores! Friends joined us around the campfire too and we all just had a great time. The next morning we had to pack up. :( But we did stop by the beach and the kids made rock statues! Then before leaving Mt. Shasta we stopped by the headwaters of the Sacramento River. That was SO cool! People would show up with containers to fill up with fresh spring water. It was shady and cool and just peaceful there. We explored some of the trails and of course took pictures! Then hit the road for home.

Even though it was a short trip, it was a memorable one! And we’re hoping to go back and spend more time there soon!! We LOVED it!

You can see the smoke starting to come in!

Wish I had a bigger lens for this one! Still so cool though! I was pretty much chasing this hawk around…

Matt’s holding up the trees! And so is Mandy. LOL!!!
