Modern North State Homes

by Ceramic Designs

Over the years that I’ve been photographing for Ceramic Designs, I’ve gotten to see a lot of the different trends that evolve. Which is really neat to see! What once was the norm to have bright oak cabinets now has veered in two different directions: Dark cabinets with a light surface (typically granite or quartz), or White cabinets and either a medium colored surface or a light-colored surface. This last set of homes I did for them really showcased the modern flairs that are the new trend. Here’s a shortlist of those new modern trends and then you’ll get to see some of the images!

Kitchen Island is a different color than the main cabinetry. I am seeing this a LOT! And sometimes the surface of the island is completely different as well. It really adds spice to the kitchen space.

Hexagon shaped tiles are becoming super popular in the bathroom designs! Especially the black or charcoal gray tones. It’s typically paired with a white subway tiled shower and light-colored granite vanity with white cabinets.

Subway tiles are often used for the kitchen backsplash and you’ll see in the photos below that one home put the tiles all the way to the ceiling! It looks awesome!

More and more I’m seeing lighter colored granite or quartz countertops now. Rarely do I see the dark stone being installed unless it’s being used for a fireplace. I personally love the light stone surfaces. It brightens up the room and gives that “light and cheery” feel to it.

Pendant lighting is another thing I’m seeing a LOT of! Pendant lights are almost an art piece in some cases. The ones you’ll see in the photos below are really neat! Wicker style and large. So neat!

Enjoy! -Jen

P.S. Make sure you scroll to the bottom! There’s a very special piece of art that I was allowed to photograph. :)

Here it is! In person, this piece is stunning and very moving to see! I don’t mention names on these posts, but this was a gift for a retiring police chief. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever! BACK THE BLUE!
