Tips for taking engagement photos in the summer without getting sweaty

Engagement photos are a special and memorable way to celebrate your love and commitment to one another. (And perfect for sending save the dates for your upcoming wedding day!!) However, taking photos during the summer can be a challenge, especially if you live in a hot and humid climate! Here are some tips to help you get stunning engagement photos without getting too sweaty during the session:

Choose the right location

Picking a location that provides some shade or natural air conditioning, such as a park with trees or a botanical garden would be a great choice for a hot day. You could also opt for an indoor location, such as a museum or art gallery. (Just make sure the location has lots of large windows providing natural light, OR that they allow artificial lighting)

Schedule your session wisely

Try to schedule your engagement photos for the early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is not as intense and the temperature is cooler. As a wedding and engagement photographer, I always recommend shooting 2 hours before the scheduled sunset for the best lighting AND the cooler temperatures!

Dress appropriately

Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that won't make you too hot. Avoid wearing dark colors, which can absorb more heat, and opt for lighter shades instead.

Stay hydrated

Make sure to bring plenty of water with you and take frequent breaks to drink it. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and heat stroke, which can cause problems during your engagement session.

Use fans or portable air conditioning

If you're shooting indoors, consider using portable fans or air conditioning units to keep you cool. If you're shooting outdoors, bring a handheld fan or a misting bottle to help you stay cool.

Use makeup to help control shine

To help reduce shine on your face, use a matte-finish powder or blotting paper. You can also try using a primer before applying your foundation to help it stay in place and reduce shine.

I hope this was helpful! It’s never fun to be hot and sweaty while trying to take engagement photos. But by following these tips, you can take beautiful and memorable photos despite the heat and hopefully without getting too sweaty. Just remember to stay cool, stay hydrated, and ultimately have fun! You’re getting married!!!!
