Say YES! to wearing a Dress for your next portrait session

Ever scroll through Instagram and stop dead in your tracks when you see a photo of someone in a gorgeous dress?! Dresses are very flattering no matter what body type you are! They’re the perfect timeless and classic choice for your next portrait session. There’s no such thing as “too dressed up” when it comes to your portrait session, so don’t be afraid to have fun with it!

Today I wanted to highlight a few reasons why you should consider saying yes to wearing a dress for your portrait session:

Dresses are Versatile

There are a variety of dress styles to choose from, ranging from casual to formal. This versatility allows you to choose a dress that best represents your personal style. If you’re looking for an elegant vibe, you may choose a dress that’s long and flowy at the bottom but fitted at the top. Or if you’re going for more of a night out kind of style, then a cocktail dress would be a great choice.

Dresses are Flattering

No matter what body type you are, dresses are extremely flattering. They can accentuate your curves and add shape to your frame. If you don’t believe me, pull up Pinterest and look at examples of women wearing dresses for their engagement session or family session.

Dresses add movement

Not only do dresses look amazing in photographs, but they also bring extra movement and dimension to your photos. Long flowy maxi dresses are perfect for twirling or dance poses. They also give you something to do with your hands. For instance, when my client is wearing a dress I may ask her to pinch the dress with one hand and have her other arm looped around her man’s elbow. This is one of my favorite prompts for walking shots!

If you’re afraid of being too “dressy”, don’t worry. Dresses can be dressed up or down to fit your desired aesthetic. Some ideas would be adding a jean jacket overtop of a flowy dress, or ditch the heels and wear a pair of flats. You could even go with a flowy skirt instead of a full dress! The options are endless.

Of course, I never force my clients to wear dresses for their sessions and if you don’t want to, that’s TOTALLY fine! You’ll still look amazing no matter what, but I did want you to know some of the benefits of dresses so you can decide what you want to wear before your next session.

If you don’t have a session scheduled already, let’s get one scheduled!
