In Loving Memory: Grandpa Ron

In Loving Memory

Grandpa Ron Russell | Korean War Veteran

On April 13th, 2020 we lost someone so dear to us, a man whom I held in such high regard, my Grandpa Ron. Grandpa was a Korean War Veteran who served our country bravely alongside many other dear soldiers and ultimately helped keep our freedom that we still enjoy today. He was a hero to me. Grandpa, I’ll never forget those war stories. And I’ll never forget surprising you when you came back from your Honor Flight to DC.

Grandpa was also an incredible businessman. He was a wonderful role model to me and by just watching him he taught me so much about the work world. Grandpa was also an adventurer. I will never forget the trips to Depoe Bay, Oregon, the trips to Seattle, and Tacoma, touring places together as a family. And Grandpa, I’ll never ever forget the times we snuck ice cream behind mom’s back. Or the times we spent together up at High Steel Bridge. I’ll never forget his laugh; in fact, I can still hear it even as I type. You had so much love to give and shared so much positivity with everyone around you.

I’d love to share some other memories with you all. Grandpa loved feeding seagulls. So much so that he had a group of seagulls waiting for him to get up each morning and one of them he named “Charlie”. He would always save table scraps for Charlie too! :)

Another memory was when we were up visiting him and Grandma, my mom would just be talking and talking and talking…Grandpa would look at us kids and secretly ask “ya’ll want some ice cream?” Of course, we did! So we’d sneak around the house behind mom’s back and be eating ice cream while she was yaking. Haha! Such fun times

One more memory that I’ll never forget, was the times in Depoe Bay, Oregon that we’d sit and watch the whales from the window or patio of the condo. All while indulging in Tillamook Cheese Curds, Caramel Corn, or Salt Water Taffy from Ainslee’s.

Boy, we are sure going to miss you, Grandpa! I love you, always will.
