Are Wedding Detail Photos Important?
You may have heard, especially from photographers, that making sure your wedding day details are photographed is super important. And you may be wondering…Why? Why would you want all these photos of objects that don’t have any people in them? Well, in today’s blog post, I’m going to answer those questions for you!
What are Wedding Details?
Before we dive into why you should have your wedding details photographed, let’s first explain what wedding details are! When I first show up to photograph a wedding, one of the first things I’m asking for is “Where are your details?” These are going to be items that are small parts of the wedding day that could easily be overlooked. But it’s those small details that make the day what it is! Those details consist of:
Wedding Invitation Suite
The Rings
The Dress
Bouquet
Veil
Earrings
Necklace
Shoes
Perfume
Family Heirlooms
Something Borrowed, Something Blue
Gifts to/from your groom/bride
Letters
And sometimes more! If there’s something special to the bride and/or groom, we want to make sure to include that and get it photographed. And let’s not forget about the grooms details too:
Cufflinks
Tie or Bowtie
Watch
Belt
Shoes
Fun Socks
Fancy Alcohol Bottle
Boutonniere
Now, if you’re a #PetersonBride all of this is covered in the Bridal Guide that you get from me when you book. You’ll also get a reminder email about these details also, so you’ll be fully prepared when I ask you for them!!
Why are Wedding Details so important?
So now that we know what Wedding Details are, now let’s talk about why it’s so important to get them photographed. I mean, it takes time for those to be photographed and couldn’t that valuable time that you’re spending money for be used on other parts of the wedding day? Well sure it could but you’d be missing out on your photographer capturing the full story of your wedding day!
Not only do us photographers love styling and photographing wedding details, but we truly believe it’s a vital part of telling your wedding story. You spend hours planning out your wedding and deciding what jewelry pieces you’re going to wear, what perfume you’re going to put on and many years down the road you may not remember those items anymore! Looking back at your wedding detail photos will help keep those memories alive forever. One day you may be sitting with your children looking through your wedding album and reminiscing with them about all those little details! It may even help them plan their own wedding one day!
Another aspect we need to consider as well is getting your wedding published. Publications LOVE detail shots! Especially ones that are stylized with an editorial feel. If you or your photographer want to get the wedding day published, the detail shots are crucial!
Preparing your Wedding Details
I hope I’ve convinced you that you need your wedding details photographed! Even if you don’t plan on submitting for publications, those detail shots are so important for the layout of your wedding album and to have those memories forever. So how can you prepare your wedding details for your photographer? Your photographer more than likely will have a styling kit with them in case you are missing elements such as ribbon or a ring box. However, a way to help your photographer is by including things like stamps, ribbon, velvet ring box, a large piece of fabric, etc that matches the color vibe of your wedding. Also asking your florist ahead of time to have some extra blooms and greenery for your photographer to use would be amazing! Then have those items and your details all in one place for when your photographer arrives. (They will LOVE you for this!)
So to answer the question “Are Wedding Detail Photos Important?” YES! They’re important! 😀 If you have any questions, I’d love to help! (Even if I’m not your wedding photographer!) I get super excited about wedding details, it’s one of my favorite parts of the wedding day to photograph, so I’d be happy to help answer any questions you may have about them.
Happy Planning!
-Love, Jen
